Cobb

Cooler, higher and forested, in the mountains above the lake.

Cobb sits high above the lake basin among pines, with noticeably cooler temperatures and a more secluded feel than the lakeside towns. Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest is nearby, with hiking and trail access.

Highway 175 climbs from Middletown over the mountain and down into Kelseyville, and the drive passes through a string of small communities and old resort sites. Cobb Mountain, at about 4,700 feet, is the tallest peak in the Mayacamas range, and much of it lies within The Geysers, one of the largest geothermal power fields in the world.

Boggs Mountain is especially popular with mountain bikers and hikers, and the area has a long history as a summer retreat for people escaping the valley heat.

Buyers here are often looking for privacy, larger parcels and a mountain-cabin setting.

Elevation changes the lifestyle: plan for winter conditions, wood heat and wildfire preparedness when you evaluate a property.
